Over the past few months we have talked about the oldest routes etc but something that hasn't been talked about are old terminal points.
Looking through old timetables I've seen a few and am wondering if anyone knows where they are?
The first is on the 52. Some buses turned short at Ballifield, Richmond Road Top and others at School Road.
The Ballifield workings are quite easy I think, turning right into Handsworth Grange Road from Beaver Hill Road?
Richmond Road Tip I assume turned right into Richmond Road and right up Laverack Street? Did these show Handsworth on the destination?
What happened at School Road? Did buses turn/back into the road or was there a turning circle?
95's had some trips that terminated at South Road. The explanation in the timetable shows them as running along Greenhow Street to Camm Street. Did buses return via Highton Road or Heavygate Road and Walkely Road?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has new locations to add even better.

I don't know about the 95, but I have wondered that about those journeys in the past.
As for the 52, it was before my time, but my understanding is that the buses turned at the old tram depot at Pickmere Road (now a Catholic Church), before the junction was blocked off there. Bit of a strange place to terminate, as it meant stopping just before the main shopping area in Crookes; never seen any pictures.
AFAIK you're spot on regarding Ballifield (where half the Eager Beavers used to terminate)

O yes I really think you need to get a copy of Sheffield Transport by Chas Hall and read it With ref to the terminus of old, there are two things to remember: all buses carried conductors so therefor they could supervise the reversing into side roads a lot of termini were reverse : Bradway was an exmple of one where a runround loop is installed. The other thing to remember is that traffic was far lighter than it is today eg in November 1960 tram 189 on its way to crich caused the over head wire at abbey lane to fall. The abbey lane/ Abbeydale Road South Jn was closed for 20 min . 8 Vehicles including 3 buses were stopped try that today ! Even looking at my shots of the 1980s the shortage of vehicles is noticable.

Some old terminal points are: 95 Intake, terminated at bottom of hill on Birley Moor Road where toilet block is (you can still do this now). Location is just after the 44 turn off for Base Green.
42 Grenoside, terminated by doing a loop of Main Street, Norfolk Hill, School Lane, Halifax Road, Norfolk Hill back to Main Street.
69 Templeborough, terminated on Sheffield Road at a loop just about accross from the Pedestrian entrance to Magna from Bus Stop. Unable to do this now as part of turn off is blocked off. There is usually a cafe parked there most days. Location is at side of steel works.

There's a lot of old termini no longer in use. Within a mile (ish) of Hillsborough Interchange you had...
Malin Bridge (2/59, certain journeys on the 13 etc)
Middlewood (81/82/86/84/85/86/88 have all terminated here at some stage - 85/86/M86 in the estate, the rest on the main road)
Shirecliffe (33/34/436 etc)
Fox Hill (33/34 briefly, the short lived 90)
Leppings Lane (15/16)
Can't be sure when the School Road services ended in Crookes (and everything ran to the "main" terminus - deregulation? Arrival of the 'Beavers?

Looking at older routes around Brinsworth we had the 24,130/1 with the 132/3 continuing to Treeton. 24s terminated at Nursery Drive turning circle along with either the 130 or 131 although could be both. These then continued to Waverley View which is near Morrisons with some turning short at Catcliffe,Plough and others finishing even shorter at Brinsworth, Three Magpies. We then of course had some 24s running to Tinsley Marshalling Yard and some 132/3 finishing or running via Treeton Colliery.

Dungworth, Briers House Lane - 11 (in past years 7/486/86/81 amongst others - all occasional extensions) The Dungworth extension was the 82 for a while too, before swapping to the 81s when the 83 was withdrawn. Funny how it survived through so many route changes and has only recently been chopped.
