The old 85/86 (Ecclesfield - Carter Knowle Road/Fulwood) use to terminate on Monteney Road in Ecclesfield. To head back towards the City Centre it went via Wodsworth Avenue, High Street, Greaves Road, Monteney Crescent and back up Monteney Road. Out of interest, when did the 85/86 stop serving Ecclesfield - Sheffield?
The old 31 (Sheffield - Ecclesfield via Walkley, Hillsborough and Southey Green?) also use to terminate on Monteney Road at Ecclesfield. It use to come down Tunwell Avenue, up Wordsworth Avenue, along Monteney Crescent and down Monteney Road where it has a break. It then turned back up Wordsworth Avenue and left up Tunwell Avenue. When did this stop serving Ecclesfield and terminated at Hillsborough?

Out of interest, when did the 85/86 stop serving Ecclesfield - Sheffield? In the big Summer 2004 shake-up, when it took over the northern end of the 93 instead. The Ecclesfield route was mostly replaced by the 87, then the shortlived 78, and I think all that remains of that route is now part of the 17. This makes me wonder, when did the 85/86 switch from terminating in Middlewood (itself now unused) to Ecclesfield? Was it the same time that the 81/82/83/84 became the 82/83/83a?

However I was only around 4/5 years old, so I don't know too much about it. Was it operating the same time as the 85/86 or did the 85/86 replace the 89? As for the 79/779, I don't remember them.

Correct me if I am wrong (as I am not 100% sure). So if the 85/86 didn't serve Ecclesfield from the Summer of 2004 and was replaced by the 87, I think this was operating for around 3 years? I started Yewlands School in 2007, and I think the 17 came around Ecclesfield in the July Service Changes just before it. So from what I can make out is the 87 was withdrawn in either January or April of 2007 and replaced with the 78 for just a few months. Then that was withdrawn and replaced by the 17 (and the 97 was also extended to Ecclesfield from Southey Green too?)

For the 78 IIRC it only lasted three months so the revised 17 occurred not too long after the demise of the 87.
The 87 did replace the 85/6 when the major service changes occurred.
