And on just 18 miles of track of which the cost of maintenance is solely the responsibility of the operator...unlike a bus whose cost of its 'bit' of road, traffic lights etc. is subsidised by every other road user.. through taxation. As I said earlier, a tram versus bus debate is pointless and sterile....since the cost of building light railways is born by the taxpayer as well. I also suspect some of your logic is also flawed, captain. The report I mentioned is still considered valid by, amongst others, the DfT and its inferrence of "little impact", at a time when you argue there was more bus useage, would seem to indicate that impact in today's climate would be even less. I also reckon you will find that with the price of petrol, today's car useage is also somewhat less.. at least that's what the media is claiming. I suspect you might just be a little prejudiced against the tram...which I agree is the cause of some frustration to other road users...just as are lorries, buses, cars and cyclists...not to mention pedestrians! Theres no arguing about it: in 2004 pre-strike bus usage was far greater than it is now. As is car usage now. My eyes are not painted on and my head is not stuck in years old reports banded as relevant by todays think tanks. You can suspect all you want-the Tram has no relevance to me as it is too far away for me to use on a daily basis, so i shall stick to using the car/bus and walking it.

First tram from Gleadless Townend was 125, which left Townend at 1418. I was waiting to photograph it using the crossover . The first tram from Manor Top was 102, which for some reason continued past Spring Lane earlier (about 1240) when all other trams were reversing there, and was at Manor Top when I went past on a bus at about 1310. 102 arrived at Townend at 1421 heading to Herdings Park and was followed by 119, 118, 105 and 111 in that order, all heading to Halfway.

Anybody know anymore? A young girl was knocked over on Middlewood Rd by the Gilders car dealership. Trams were re-routed to Malin Bridge. SLs had to turn around at Middlewood as usual as they couldn't get through. Hopefully the young girl is ok and will make a speedy recovery!
