Whilst I'm sure we all agree the sooner they go the better there is a potential issue, how are the replacements going to be funded? As Lysander has mentioned it is the most heavily subsidised franchise and there have been numerous suggestions that the new franchise holder will have to cut costs and will gain a reduced subsidy, on that basis that implies to keep the cost of the franchise down any net difference between the cost of new stock and the nodding donkeys will be from cuts elsewhere
That is assuming new and modern is not meaning replacing pacers to some degree with 'refurbished' stock freed up by electrification or investment elsewhere in the country (i.e. more sprinters).

After today announcement, the Pacers could be here a bit longer... At least we now know where the HS2 money is coming from.

I think they look far better than current inside however I'm not too keen on the livery or the internal PIS tbh.

They do look nice inside, but at the end of the day, you can put lipstick on a pig, but a pig will always remain a pig.

the pacer refurb program only covers the 143 and 144 due to the 142 having serious corrosion problems under the skin. Just call it the Leyland national strikes back for the last time.
