I totally agree about the smaller firms but more laid back no one on your back.and get treat better, also woth smaller firms generally speaking its the management who have done the bus drivi g themselves and actually knows what goes on out there rather than someone at a big firm whise come out of uni thinks the job is totally perfect on paper and brilliant at promising fantastic results but doesn't know what the real.world looks like, I'm in the industry myself and I would take less pay and been treated better than someone telling me I'm not allowed to use my own initiative for more money, more hassle and someone on ypur back constantly

I wonder how past smaller firms compared to the South Pennine and TM Travel of today. I've seen reports on Facebook groups that the operations manager at Yorkshire Terrier wasn't too good at speaking to staff, spoke down to them and at them. Not sure about Andrew's, they were very laid back. Aston Express seemed to be another laid back firm. The South Pennine drivers seem to be very happy with their roles.

I know aston express was laid back, tates travel was laid back, I believe Powells was also quite relaxed too, amd even though the big companies make jokes of the smaller independents, it's not normally the smaller independents that struggle to cover mileage and have less staff turnover than your big boys so to speak, south pennine have also got a community feel around huddersfield serving the villages and a mobile library on one of the services too around West yorkshire so it definitely sounds like a good company to work for where they know the driver by name

Also the driver knows the passengers names and the passengers know the drivers name, but take first, stagecoach, arriva the passengers don't care what the drivers name is as long as they see a bus with probably a miserable driver too

More importantly they want the service to succeed.

And also I am.a big believer in if you treat ur staff with respect you will get it back, without the drivers management wouldn't have a job and neither would engineers

And also I am.a big believer in if you treat ur staff with respect you will get it back, without the drivers management wouldn't have a job and neither would engineers This is so true, and often forgotten. In fact senior management, traffic controllers up to chef execs, should be forced to drive so many hours per year to keep their jobs. I have heard reports that our local depot TC, cannot even use a ticket machine. Engineers, I often feel a bit sorry for actually because, rumour has it that repair spending is tightly controlled. I bet there are some days when their job feels like a brick wall.
