I reckon the driver issue is not really solved, I think it is just in a temporary hiatus and will revert very soon, as it does on a regular basis. One of the major issues is the mentality of folks joining the industry who expect to work office hours. We seem to have more than our fair share of google "experts" whose "knowledge" is based on what is written on the various forums and other social media sites. Several members of this forum have extensive experience in the bus industry and in some cases at fairly senior levels. They are constantly challenged by people who clearly have little or no industry experience with child like comments and suggestions. It grinds us down and to be honest I think most of us just ignore these comments but that does not stop them, they just work on the theory that we have stopped commenting because they have "won". NO we just get tired of the same things again and again with no let up.I can accept that not everyone has a working knowledge of the industry but to challenge those who do and assert you are right is not the way to learn. You don't know what "experience" others have in the industry or not. How could you? It's an anonymous forum where no one's credentials are checked. I don't know if you genuinely have worked for First or Stagecoach or TM,so I won't believe anything you say is absolute gospel. Your comment about driver shortages being on a "hiatus" is frankly a naive thing to say when no one knows what the future holds. These men are earning more than minimum wage in quite an exciting role and will be well aware that it's not 9-5 from their training. The drivers shadow their trainer drivers on their shift patterns before they go solo. Many loyal drivers stay with the company for decades. Oh you poor boy, do you realise there is a big REAL world out there where people talk to each other and discuss things in an intellectual way? That place is called the real world. I have worked alongside Captain, Overground and several others on here. yes it is anonymous, up till the point when colleagues meet and discuss in person. On some occasions we differ in our opinions, that is life, what we do though is RESPECT each others views because they are what they have gained in their lives. There is a growing list of drivers applying for "family friendly" shifts. Several walk out in the first week or 2 when they are told they will be working a late shift. Please dont try and tell myself and others about the workings of the bus industry we have worked in all our lives, we live and breathe it and have forgotten more that most people on forums like this could ever hope to know.

This is NOT the real world. It's an online forum. Have you met everyone on here in the real world? I don't think so. You don't "RESPECT" others' opinions, evidently, as you dismissed them as "childish" in your previous post. People can apply for fixed shifts but the company doesn't have to accept them if they are not able to. The employee has the right to apply but the company has the right to put its needs first. If you don't like how we work on this forum, feel free to join your imaginary friends in "the real world" instead of acting as though you are above other members on here, know better than them and show downright disrespect for their posts.

I am well aware that this is an online forum with sadly no intelligence test involved in the application. Yes, I have met a great many of the people on here in real life, the majority of whom have my respect because they have earned it. I reserve the right to be critical of posts that are clearly wrong, misinformed or in some cases just crazy. If you dont like my responses then have a hard think about what you post, at best the majority fall into the category of entertainment bordering on fantasy. In the old days on here you would have been booted off in no time but now, there are so few active members even the likes of you are tolerated.

NO, you would be booted off for the disrespect you show to other members on here. You think your opinion is the only one that counts well it ain't. I won't change what I post to appease you, some anonymous "expert" with a self inflated ego. If you don't like what people post on here, find another transport forum.

I can.also vouch that I have worked with Duncan in the industry, he is a very intelligent guy and definitely has a good few years experience under his belt, he speaks his mind and a lot of people don't like it, but I have always found what you see is what you get, anyhow the bus industry, a lot of new starters don't stick it cos of the late shifts or finishing at midnight and back in at 9am, I was never fond of them but I have always said in this industry u have to be thick skinned, and there is also companies that do 12 hour shifts that's not appealing to some people too

In other news, the timetables for all the services are now on the Derbyshire County Council website www.derbysbus.info/

From what I can gather, looking at timetables etc, Greystones hasn't had a bus service since First took the 83 off. It's outrageous for such a densely populated area not to have a bus service.
