Holloways do do some contract work, but not much - they have a few schools and supermarket services.

Yes that true i think they have a couple of runs on some local scunthorpe runs as well on schooldays only so at a guess posistioning journeys to avoid dead mileage, so nothing really that brings them in the path of Hornsby, Isle or Stagecoach so Veolia sharing a base with them in my opinon is the most likely out of all the Scunthorpe area operators.
On the subject of Veolia from catching another bus of theres last week needless to say the quality of service has not improved, hopefully Scunthorpe will get a better quality of service than sheffield/rotherham/doncaster

Don't hold your breath, the 'improved' 44 service in Lincoln is still as bad as it was before, ie the buses turning up every 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes and then being full because the ex-London Darts aren't big enough for peak runs!

It came with Traction Group, they were more interested in the Yorkshire and Dundee operations and Lincolnshire was just an add on the side.

I have to disagree with that they were interested in the sheffield division and dundee lol not all rest of yorkshire, allthough lincolnshire is the one getting all the new buses etc so it makes you wonder.

New buses in Lincolnshire have been a few for the 100 Scunthorpe - Lincoln, and three for the Park Springs route which were paid for by the council!
They are only interested in Sheffield - like First then.

Apparently Stagecoach reregistered the 7/8 commercially to stop Dunn Line going into Scunthorpe (ignoring their existing Sunday 350 contract). Dunn Line then decided it wouldnt worth just doing the 60 so Stagecoach rewon the tender for that. Info from Lincolnshire Local Buses Yahoo Group

I understand that this is an extremely ancient topic, but the 7/8 in Scunthorpe of now is still run by Stagecoach, but the 8 terminates at Skippingdale Retail Park and then goes back as a 7 and the 7 terminates at the same location and returns as an 8. At the time this thread was originally started, does anybody here know if that's how the 7 and 8 were run back then?

My April 2006 'Scunthorpe Shuttle' timetable has the 7 and 8 back then as operating a common route from Scunthorpe Bus Station via Frodingham Road, Crosby and Dewsbury Avenue before then operating a loop via Hilton Avenue, Tesco Extra, the A1077 and Speedwell Crescent - the 7 anti clockwise and the 8 clockwise - back to Dewsbury Avenue and as per the outward route. My 30th October 2006 guide shows the same but with Frodingham Road replaced with the hospital and Avenue Vivian between Scunthorpe Bus Station and Crosby. Skippingdale Retail Park was not served - it seems to have been dropped when Tesco Extra opened in 2002 (and the Skippingdale Tesco closed) and did not regain a bus service until 2012, with the 37.

Humberside is correct - going back further the original 7/8 were renumbered in 2005ish from the 346 and 347 which ran right back into the 90's at least. At one time, these were the only town buses that ran directly past the Hospital, and also ran across town onto Ashby and Bottesford as 343/344 - so were quite well used. The 9 was launched in the late 90's, and that took most of the Hospital trade away. Although the 2 buses an hour has remained, it had been trimmed considerably since the mid 00's with most pre-0930 and post 1500 journeys gradually reduced until last years recast. I had been half expecting the 60 to replace what is now the 7 side of the route in the future - but under "simplibus" the current service is probably the best the area has had for many years - especially on Speedwell Crescent and Skippingdale.
Last I heard, a couple of early/late 8 journeys are still tendered to stagecoach.
