My April 2006 'Scunthorpe Shuttle' timetable has the 7 and 8 back then as operating a common route from Scunthorpe Bus Station via Frodingham Road, Crosby and Dewsbury Avenue before then operating a loop via Hilton Avenue, Tesco Extra, the A1077 and Speedwell Crescent - the 7 anti clockwise and the 8 clockwise - back to Dewsbury Avenue and as per the outward route. My 30th October 2006 guide shows the same but with Frodingham Road replaced with the hospital and Avenue Vivian between Scunthorpe Bus Station and Crosby. Skippingdale Retail Park was not served - it seems to have been dropped when Tesco Extra opened in 2002 (and the Skippingdale Tesco closed) and did not regain a bus service until 2012, with the 37. Thanks for the history lesson about those routes, much appreciated. A couple more questions I have about those two services, and the other services on the Scunthorpe Shuttle network in April 2006. 1. At the time, did the 7 and 8 run on Sundays and during the week, what time did the last 7 and 8 leave the bus station? Were there any after six evening journeys offered? 2. I remember my grandparents telling me that the Ashby service 6 when it was still 336 had evening journeys after 6 up until about 10 and Sunday journeys were available on this route too. Had this been stopped by April 2006 or were such services still running? 3. I read at the start of this discussion that the about the 10/11 circulars serving Tesco, Westcliff, Ashby, then Lakeside. What waa the frequency of these routes, ie every hour, half hour etc? Did they serve Cliff Gardens or Minster Road/Bolsover Road? Or did they go straight from town to Tesco down Doncaster Road, then after Tesco straight down Scotter Road to Bristol Road? And did they run on a Sunday at all? 4. Were there any routes serving Jackson Road, Henderson Avenue or Long Road in April 2006? 5. Were there any bus routes serving Whitestone Road/Meredith Road in April 2006? 6. Finally, although I know Stagecoach took over RoadCar in December 2005, I've seen a Scunthorpe to Hull 350 route timetable leaflet from May 2006 and it still mentions RoadCar. Does your Scunthorpe Shuttle April 2006 edition mention it as Stagecoach or RoadCar?

Exactly even though the likes of First, Stagecoach, Mass, Powells etc get critised on here & by the public/ press for one thing or another atleast when you hand over the money it stays in the british transport system & even if it goes to the directors back pocket or shareholders its still mostly in the UK, where as Veolia id imagine is on the French version of our stock market therefore the people who benefit are the shareholders in France and the company directors over there & also what exactly do they do for the general public provide contract routes which odds are if they didn't run somebody else would hardly like First, Stagecoach, Arriva, Powells and many others who provide commercial services & compete, to me Dunn-Line/ Veolia is a business which has found a easy way to make money i.e. contract work as opposed to commercial & competitive work and theyll stick to that and expand via it & keep well out of the way of anybody else when it comes to commercial service. This is deregulation in operation - keep the profitable routes and unload the non profitable to the taxpayer

Yes that was the exact principle behind it and it worked and was cheaper than what was in place before, until the councils started dodging their responsibilities.

Last 7 was 1750 Mon-Fri, 1650 Sat. Last 8 was 1720 The only evening and Sunday town services were the 14 and 15 - today's 1A Going back to April 2002 though, and Crosby was served on a Sunday afternoon and evening by extensions of the 336 via the Hospital and Avenue Vivian - departures from Scunthorpe Bus Station at 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 2000, 2100 and 2200. Doesn't seem to have been any equivalent Monday to Saturday evening provision to Crosby. Back then evening and Sunday provision covered more areas. There was the 334/335 over a similar route to today's 1A. The 336 which as you mentioned had Mon-Sat evening journeys between Scunthorpe and Ashby and then the Sunday service with extensions to Crosby. There was also the 345 on a Friday and Saturday evening between Scunthorpe Bus Station, Collum Avenue, Ashby and Timberlands. In addition the 4 to Brigg and Sunday 350 extension to Ashby, provided, and still do provide, a limited local service for Ashby Road One thing to note though is the 334/335 and 14/15 all operated every hour. On Sunday daytimes today the 1A operates every half hour in each direction. So whilst the number of areas served on Sunday daytimes has gone down, those that are served have a higher frequency. Every hour both 10 and 11 - however the western section was off peak only. Only 6 journeys did the full clockwise loop on service 10 (0910 to 1410 from Scunthorpe Bus Station), and only 7 journeys the anti clockwise loop on service 11 (0940 to 1440 and 1640 from Scunthorpe Bus Station). They served Cliff Gardens, but not Minster Road/Bolsover Road, which was only served by the 1 Mon-Sat daytime. 4. Were there any routes serving Jackson Road, Henderson Avenue or Long Road in April 2006? Long Road no. Service 17 covered Jackson Road and Henderson Avenue however - 4 off peak departures from the Bus Station via the hospital then a loop Avenue Vivian-Jackson Road-Henderson Avenue-Ferry Road-Avenue Vivian 5. Were there any bus routes serving Whitestone Road/Meredith Road in April 2006? No 6. All RoadCar - though the day and weekly tickets were dayrider/megarider, so first sign of Stagecoach influence

All RoadCar - though the day and weekly tickets were dayrider/megarider, so first sign of Stagecoach influence It seems like Tesco, Westcliff and Lakeside are now once more linked with a single bus route for the first time since 2006, with the 2s being withdrawn and the daytime 1s being extended to cover Lakeside and Bellingham Road. Many will find it particularly useful when the new Lidl off Queensway opens during this week, and the buses will be able to stop outside the new store, as the yellow markings have been painted outside the store.
