so now we are discussing the pathetic performance of 60617, what in members opinions are the fastest buses to drive or ride on?. the fastest i have driven lately are: optare;53035. olympian:30550 B7TL;31135 gemini;31799 B10M;60569 B10L; er......... B10BLE;60626 B7L; 60718. fastest bus i have ever driven? either 778 70 plus on stocksbridge bypass or 1959 also 70 plus on M18 but it was straddling 3 lanes. anyone whos driven a fastline will know what i mean.

It'll probably surprise some people, but the fastest one I've been on was a Stagecoach Bassestlaw Optare Excel. They can get some speed up quite quickly on the roads to Tickhill on the 22! B10Ms come a close second though...

WAS Most of the Scania's with Stagecoach Yorkshire, best was the flytes.
NOW Must be the Volvo's with First, Wright's (NOT B7L's THOUGH!) and Alexander PSs.

Yep 30550 has to be one of my top choices as well as 60718.

If it counts as its some years ago i had 70 plus out of a dennis fastline 2489, and once when following 2488 on the m18 it was hitting 80! i had the unfortunate expierience of 2480 with a full load from the A1 junction up the hill towards bramley. it was stuck in top gear doing 33 mph. shook itself to death.

I had the pleasure of driving one the other day all the way from Oxford to Rotherham!!

I had the pleasure of driving one the other day all the way from Oxford to Rotherham!! it is fast compared to other 3 and climbs hills reasonably well(!), i bet oxford to rotherham was boring. in this thread im not just talking about all out speed but pulling power as well, the blast from the lights factor!.

B10Ms are just about the the most driver friendly buses in south yorkshire, and to think in the early nineties lots of people didnt enjoy driving them because the brakes were so keen. the bit that i enjoy is when you slow down from 40 mph and you get the whistle from the retarder on voith ones. then the parp from the footbrake when pulling away again.

They were a bit of a surprise after dominators and atlanteans. I always preferred BLE's for being driver friendly, pulling power, brakes and suspension. I hated BLEs when they were new. too low down in cab and to say they have powerfullest braking force of any type we run, the brakes were spongy as hell. Another bus i loved was 1029 S685 BFS, that was a beast.

Stagecoach Barnsley Depot Cummins Solos have great pulling power, especially on Stocksbridge routes (25 especially). FX04WFR/S are the best, the YJ55s are a bit worse, and YN53ZWD at Ecclesfield doesn't seem as potent. The tram feeder MANS are also impressive, they have a weird engine note too with lots of pinging noises and whirrs as they change gear.
I always found N213VRC amazingly nippy next to all the other Traction Group Metroriders, when Terrier were using it on 201 when they got the contract it was much nippier than all the other Solos/MRs.
Stagecoach Scania/ELC Flyte M56AWW was also a beast, going back to its coach origins.
For FSY I always find B10BLES a pretty steady equiavlent with the B10Ms, T825MAK is pretty good, I always think the J-AWFs are the best B10M batch for power? N-CKYS worse (some v.bad ones at OG). I agree fully with Olympian N305JBV (30550), always the best of these, N303/11 don't seem bad either.

Who could forget Gordon's driving of the ex south yorkshire Ailsa's and come to that many of the Black Prince's own drivers! Ohhh Barbara!!!!

<optare;53035.> Are you sure it really was fast and not just a dicky speedo. Optare limit Solos to just over 50MPH? well the 55 plate solos at barnsley depot do way more than that. On one of them there is a little sticker on dash saying that "this bus is limited to 90 kph" its a lie i was on the x12 with it and it does well over 100 kph only bus i have managed to overtake anything on the motorway with. Also believe it or not we have a b6ble [31031] that apparently can do 75 mph think the speedo might be dicky on that one though. ;D ;D ;D
