I hated BLEs when they were new. too low down in cab and to say they have powerfullest braking force of any type we run, the brakes were spongy as hell. Another bus i loved was 1029 S685 BFS, that was a beast. Agree about cab, as for brakes was thinking more about pulling, always pulled up straight without launching you through the windscreen. B10M's were always hit and miss. pulled one way or the other. Thats my main hate with the B10BLE,the driving position is just all wrong, the B10M offers a nice high driving position and of course there's the distinctive roar of the B10M,the noise of the retarder as stated by CS1 and the ability to manouver it almost anywhere.

Stagecoach Barnsley Depot Cummins Solos have great pulling power, especially on Stocksbridge routes (25 especially). FX04WFR/S are the best, the YJ55s are a bit worse, and YN53ZWD at Ecclesfield doesn't seem as potent. The tram feeder MANS are also impressive, they have a weird engine note too with lots of pinging noises and whirrs as they change gear. I always found N213VRC amazingly nippy next to all the other Traction Group Metroriders, when Terrier were using it on 201 when they got the contract it was much nippier than all the other Solos/MRs. Stagecoach Scania/ELC Flyte M56AWW was also a beast, going back to its coach origins. For FSY I always find B10BLES a pretty steady equiavlent with the B10Ms, T825MAK is pretty good, I always think the J-AWFs are the best B10M batch for power? N-CKYS worse (some v.bad ones at OG). I agree fully with Olympian N305JBV (30550), always the be Thier is oone olly which is realy bad on hills though. I Think its ether N301JBV or N302JBV not shore but it alway goes real slow up dykes hall and on worrall RD when i catch it.

I remember the occasion! I remember the remarks about 2480 at the time. - wasn't it borrowed from Doncaster just for the club run? 2489 - it won't do 70 now, and the speedo currently reads about 10mph fast. Currently in a bit of a bad way. Will be fixed eventually though. ;D Fastest bus - not the fastest speed but quite incredible was Leon 123 - NOC435R. It was followed running light one day by one of the fitters doing over 60mph! Fearing that it may blow up, he then cut it down a bit! And yes....it was a Fleetline!!!

<optare;53035.> Are you sure it really was fast and not just a dicky speedo. Optare limit Solos to just over 50MPH? well the 55 plate solos at barnsley depot do way more than that. On one of them there is a little sticker on dash saying that "this bus is limited to 90 kph" its a lie i was on the x12 with it and it does well over 100 kph only bus i have managed to overtake anything on the motorway with. Also believe it or not we have a b6ble [31031] that apparently can do 75 mph think the speedo might be dicky on that one though. ;D ;D ;D I can believe a B6 doing 70 on motorway. Ours were txxx on hills but when on flat they could trap. Oh and revs were way past redline. Our optares have merc engines. Better off in a hong kong junk.

Got to say one bus that would beat them all was the old YTC fleet 207 scania. Had this many times on the X30, it would leave most cars looking like they were stood still.

The old Volvo re-engined Leyland Nationals were rather swift. The only trouble was stopping them...

The old Volvo re-engined Leyland Nationals were rather swift. The only trouble was stopping them... The volvo engine did not do any favours to gearbox either. The ones i personally had contact with broke up the rear ends as well, too heavy. DAF ones were ok. How about the GO-AHEAD ones? Volvo/Voith combination.

Volvo engined nationals....I had a brief spell with one - it would trap on on the motorway - 65mph. Can't beat a good Mk2 in my book KWA22W was a superb machine, as was FWA472V. ;D

Mmm. seem to recall getting 50 mph out of Atlantean/Marshall 1812 on harborough avenue (any one who did 25As at night will know why i wasnt hanging about). the best national 2 i ever travelled on was East midlands 623 MWG 623X?. No rattles, lovely TL11 engine barking away up Park grange road. Fastest normal dominator? 2133. 58 mph in silent 4th. he he.

Stagecoach Scania/ELC Flyte M56AWW was also a beast, going back to its coach origins. Anyone know whether this was saved, or was it scrapped? Were the Fastline Dominators restricted later, or just worn? D486OWE and co didn't seem very quick in their old age in Doncaster.

Out of the ones i had the misfortune to drive before there disposal 2484 was in a real state body wise but went well, 2489 so/so.

I remember Dominator 2234 when it got transferred to HA and put in service for a few weeks (probably due to shortage/breakdowns) although it looked in a state but it was quite quick for a Y reg bus.
