I thought I was unfortunate to just see the 1 over the last few months but 3 of them in a day around SY! They usually, when misallocated, tend to be thrown onto the Scunthorpe to Sheffield/Lincoln route. Thankfully I tend to use the Wakefield Line more often than not between Rotherham Central and Swinton, so get treated to 3 car 144s...

I see the Merseyrail ones regularly - not as much as the Northern Spirit or FNW ones, but then there are less of them!

I want 3 car 144s! All the ex Merseyrail and all but 4 ex FNW 142s are still based over in Manchester (where they belong IMO!) but they're becoming increasingly harmonised, and as thrybergh said, they can often end up on South Yorkshire diagrams. (I should know, I catch the 17:01 from Doncaster most days and a lot of the time it's a Manchester based pacer). Speaking of pacers, 142021 was deputising for a 158 on Doncaster-Hull stoppers today - ouch!

Are there really still some Pacers running around in Northern Spirit colours?....How many years is it since that lot bit the dust?

The last Northern Spirit 142 was repainted at some point in 2008 I believe, but the interior design still lives on!
More unusual workings today as 142093 (one of only 2 left in Arriva colours) was deputising for a 158 on Donny-Hull stoppers.

You'd think so, but 9 times out of 10, the 3 car 144s are usually allocated to the Wakefield Line. It always seems to be the same few units that are allocated too. So far I've only seen 1 Class 142 on the Sheffield to Leeds via Rotherham stopper. Most of the Class 142s around SY seem to be on the local Sheffield to Doncaster and Sheffield to Huddersfield routes. The Hallam Line also seems to get its fair share with the Class 142s also.

Seen from Doncaster Interchange earlier, a rake of East Coast Mk3 carriages being pulled by a black carriage and an EWS diesel locomotive (63?). Didn't know if there was a Class 43 at the other end though.

Yesterday at 8am I spotted a freight train travelling north bound through Sheffield station, the loco (didn't see what it was as it was already going through the tunnel when i saw it) was hauling a number of sea freight containers, never seen one of these go through Sheffield before. Is this a usual working?
I presumed it was on a diversion of some sort, i'm guessing such workings usually go up the ECML.

Didn't know if there was a Class 43 at the other end though. Probably a rake of repainted Mk3s coming out of the works, the black coach would have been the barrier coach to help the loco couple to the coaches (66s and Mk3s don't have compatible couplings so can't couple without a barrier coach). It wouldn't have had a power car on the other end. It would have been a Leeds bound Freightliner service. They normally go Chesterfield>Beighton>Masborough on the freight line but it seems it was diverted via Sheffield station for some reason. Hope this helps guys!

There were 2 Class 142 Pacers coupled together @ 8.41am inbound towards Sheffield at Rotherham Central. Didn't manage to catch the fleetnumbers, but there were people onboard. There was also another Class 142 around 2 minutes in front. So not sure if this was on the Sheffield (from Doncaster) or Sheffield (from Leeds) service. 1st time I've ever seen a Pacer coupled together though.

It will be the service from Leeds which leaves Swinton at 08:34 as this is usually 2x142s or 2x144s

Today:
Class 156 on the 11:14 Sheffield to Leeds (I see this working most Saturdays and its always a 3 car class 144). I've not seen any 156s in Sheffield for sometime so I presume a 156 in Sheffield in general is a bit unusual these days?
The 11:06 Sheffield to Leeds was a 3 car class 144, on a Saturday this working is always either a 2 car one or a 142.
An usual one over the 'border' that i noticed whilst travelling from Sheffield to Leeds was a TPE class 185 between Woodlesford and Normanton I presume either heading Wakefield or Castleford bound (not sure where it was going)
