Well, if it aint going to happen then is there a point in discussing new trams, routes etc?
Supertrams control centre is capable of taking significantly more trams than it currently does and clearly - as it needs 24 of 25 trams for peak service IIRC - it would therefore need more for any expansion.

It's a shame they didn't extend it - the old route is getting a bit boring now, and there's not much of it compared to the old system.

Oh well, if its getting a bit boring, lets get the cheque book out.
The system isn't there to keep you entertained, its to move people. Its nearly enough to make me weep.
And before you praise it too highly, perhaps you should read my thoughts on the Fox Hill 'problem' in Made Up Bus Routes.

What I mean is that the excitement of a new tram system has worn off, and it would be nice to get something new and interesting to keep everyone interested and entice more people onto the trams. If a brand new route opened, there would be lots of people out there who would think, "ooh - a new route, let's go and see what it's like!"

Perhaps if Sheffield had a more comprehensive local rail network, heavy rail to light rail conversion may have seen supertram have more expansion. To be honest though, it is not the correct policy to adopt new supertram routes willy nilly. It would be a waste of resources and public money unless there was a specific need such as there is Manchester.
