This is a brilliant thread-I was wondering how do you store the old blinds-and what are they made of? Alos have the materials changedover the years? I have to confess, as I have got older and my family has got bigger, I have sold most of the blinds on e-bay etc. Most of the lists I have placed on here are from official documentation from my time at the company's concerned, but the inserts etc. are taken from the actual blinds. The material that blinds were traditionally printed on was linen or paper panels on to linen. Later blinds were printed directly on to Tyvek - a material made from glassfibre. It's very strong and is also used for insulating buildings and waterproofing. The latest material is plastic. Either white or dayglo yellow. Most manufacturers have gone out of business, but McKenna brothers is still going strong and they have a website that tells you the history of blinds and how they are produced it's on www.mckennabrothers.co.uk/

I've had a little rummage... The Transport Executive leaflet (1st May 1994) shows the 280 running five times on a Sunday (the first two are Sheffield - Stanage - Hathersage - Yorkshire Bridge - Derwent - Snake Inn, and the last three are the same route to Hathersage, then on to Castleton via Hope), run by East Midland. However, the May 1994 comprehensive Peak District book shows these 280 journeys as running from Chesterfield as an 80 (via Brimmington - New Whittington - Eckington - Gleadless) to Sheffield then on to the Peaks - giving a direct bus to the countryside for people in south eastern Sheffield (odd that the PTE didn't advertise this). The 80 was the evening/ sunday version of the 56, broadly similar to the 252, but extending to Chesterfield rather than Crystal Peaks. Thanks for that, but you['re talking about a post-deregulation and completely different service 280. The one I'm referring to was in the 1980s and ran Sundays only, via Ringinglow, Hathersage, Hope and onto Edale as previously described.

This is a special, mainly for Tom B, but I've posted it here for convenience sake.
This is the current Lothian ultimate. This is printed white on black plastic in the Transport typeface. On older vehicles, a slightly different 'upper case' set is used. Where this differs from the current, I have put the destination in brackets. On older vehicles, the blind is printed in capitals, but also in Transport typeface.

Thanks, B&C. Is Gilmerton PL code 87, by any chance ? Yes. The printers left it off the first version of this blind, and nobody has moved it since.

Another Question-On a thread of place with 2 names, ie Lower Walkley and Hillsborough, wasn’t Crystal Peaks also named as Waterthorpe? I know it used to be on the PTE Timetables, but I am sure a bus company used Waterthorpe.

I know it used to be on the PTE Timetables, but I am sure a bus company used Waterthorpe. Sean Right Sean, will answer your questions for you! Crystal Peaks, on post 1981 blinds was called WATERTHORPE. This was because Crystal Peaks was to be the Waterthorpe District Centre, and between 1986 and 1987 was the base for Waterthorpe Market. It was never used in service as service X29/X54/X55 used HALFWAY and X30 MOSBOROUGH. The Fastline blinds have been expalined before, but I will recap. The first set used the green and blue version on a white background. Unfortunately at night this use to show as a plain white panel and was replaced with a white on blue version. As this didn't fit in with the corporate identity of the Fastline image, it was replaced with a red panel in 1985. This caused problems at night with South Yorkshire Police and had to be lit by a blue light. If you read towards the top of this forum, you will find a fuller reply.

Thank you for that list browncream I can not remember a Eastwood Trading Estate bus, but I know when I was in year 7 at Thrybergh, I remember in Eastwood Trading Estate there was a bus shelter, along with 2 telephone boxes and a post box outside the KP factory on Chesterton Road, although after the bus shelter was constantly vandalised and the CCTV did not work to deter the culprits this was removed along with the telephone boothes and post box, only the road marking saying Bus Stop still remain on the road, I may pop down later on, on my bike and get some photos, but I can remember the Timetable saying 721 I think, I know it was a 7 series number and was only a workers special service. Was the ASDA service the one for the ASDA at Eastwood (also on the Eastwood Trading Estate at the side of this bus stop!) before it moved to Dalton? Surprised any bus journeys ended at Mowbray Gardens, mind you this is currently the terminus of the 15, although the blinds display East Herringthorpe rather than Eastwood or Mowbray Gardens as they do on the bus timetables. The works bus from KP was 759.

Just wanting to know something regarding the 4 SLF Darts at Rotherham.
When these had Roller Blinds fitted could they only display Sheffield via Airport and Rotherham via Airport as I can not recall once in 3 years when they were mis allocated and not used on the A1 route.
If they did have other destinations in place, what where these and why were they never used on any other service apart from the A1 until First lost the contract for the A1 and these were then allocated to the 107?
