Presumably the tendered journeys on the 6 are the ones that omit Littledale and run up Prince Of Wales Road to Manor Top? In which case the route should be okay for full sized buses (the side roads in Darnall around Greenland are okay for the 18A that diverts that way, and used to be find with the 70/71 circular). Replacement of the 31 could be harder. I wouldn't be surprised at a "52B" extending beyond Wisewood to serve Loxley, but the route around Upperthorpe might be a bit harder to serve with diverted services, unless it's tied to the revised 57 tender (i.e. diverting some 57s off Langsett Road/ Infirmary Road)? After Powells closed a couple of years ago, and various regular services were disrupted by school diversions (and school kids cramming onto normal buses), this set of tenders looks like another attempt to try to cover the same number of passengers with a reduced number of buses, spreading resources even thinner. But with the pub trade no longer being what it was, evening services become harder to sustain. To avoid confusion I think Dougie is referring to Bright Bus not Powells's?

No aspersions/implications intended, didn't meant to confuse the two operators!

What would First use on the 6? Last time they used the Marshall bodied Darts and Solo's. I also think I saw Olympians on it as well. Maybe the Midi Streetlites that are currently at Doncaster Interesting... Given the complicated interworking, so that Leger Way run journeys on routes like the X5, who's to say that Olive Grove would be the depot that would run a route like the 6!

Stagecoach Yorkshire tender updates: Ecclesfield - 31 not awarded, 57 evenings and Sunday mornings to First, 86 late evenings to First, 35a and 201 to Powell's. Holbrook - 25 late evenings to First. Barnsley - 92 not awarded (Globe are running this commercially during the daytime as a 94). We've retained the evenings and Sundays as 94a. Chesterfield - 71 evenings not awarded. We have gained new work at Ecclesfield (one daytime bus on M92/58) and four school buses (760, 762, 766, 777). Rawmarsh have gained the 136 evenings and Sundays, Rotherham to Hoyland. Rawmarsh will also run the commercial 49, Doncaster to Sprotbrough when the 219 is straightened out. This is one daytime bus, working off 220/221. We've retained some existing work, including the 218 evenings, 219 evenings and Sundays and all the Penistone Grammar contracts. The 408 and 409 will move from Ecclesfield to Barnsley. Note that SCT have lost all their tendered work with just the NHS funded H1 remaining. TM Travel have lost the 4 (not awarded), 6 to First and 61/62 to Powell's. New work for Chesterfield depot... Working with the Peak District National Park we have won a tender to run a summer leisure service linking Derwent Dams, Bamford, Hope, Edale, Castleton, Winnat's Pass and Blue John Caverns. Two buses will run daily for the six weeks school summer holidays. We have the contract for three years. I don't know if this helps but it maybe nearer the time that an existing route is extended to cover the area for the 71, or that the service will be run commercially. I bet sypte don't put the new timetables up until mid August so there will be very little time to plan. Not awarded means as far as I know that the contract has not been put out to tender at all. So will just have to keep our eyes ane ears open I guess

I don't think there actually are that many tendered journeys on 71 at the moment, and apparently all the commercial ones (including 71a) are continuing as they are now. Killamarsh, Norwood, high moor are all served by the 70a so people can connect with the tram and the 120 at halfway, or the 50 at eckington. Mosborough will still have the 50, so it's only the section of station road between mosborough and halfway that will lose the service, and that's mostly within walking distance of other stops anyway, plus there's still the 30a there.

No wonder the public are fed up with bus services they are presented with when you've got services been split in the evening or on Sundays with different operater's as indicated above.... Here's an example If you just travel on route 86 instead of buying a stagecoach weekly ticket, you will have to buy one that's valid on all services which will mean yet another price rise...... What if the evening timetable is different to what it is now yet another increase in journey times.... NO wonder the public are fed up with bus travel in South Yorkshire.......

I agree. Sadly it's all down to tendering, there is a limited pot of money available to SYPTE to subsidise services. Therefore services that are run commercially by one operator in the daytime may not be sustainable for that operator in the evening or Sundays. So they bid for funding, that funding will usually go to the cheapest bidder which could be a totally different operator. Sometimes an operator may bid for 5 or six routes as a job lot if you like and offer a cheaper combined bid. at least I think that's how it works. That's why different operators run the same route. Some PTE's and local authorities (I think) stipulate as part of the award that operators must accept each otherers tickets but not all!

6 is the full daytime service between City and Littledale, also including the 6A through to Manor Top direct via Prince of Wales Rd. I'd suspect TM Travel could possibly go down the de-minimis route or even full commercial through the daytime.

Some PTE's and local authorities (I think) stipulate as part of the award that operators must accept each otherers tickets but not all! There are limits as to what can be specified. Currently return tickets must be accepted but as most operators choose not to sell them that the way it goes. We could also ask them to award to the daytime operator only and as soon as the operators find out the bid prices will go up massively when they realise they cant lose and up goes the council tax. Cant win no matter what they do.
