I agree. Sadly it's all down to tendering, there is a limited pot of money available to SYPTE to subsidise services. Therefore services that are run commercially by one operator in the daytime may not be sustainable for that operator in the evening or Sundays. So they bid for funding, that funding will usually go to the cheapest bidder which could be a totally different operator. Sometimes an operator may bid for 5 or six routes as a job lot if you like and offer a cheaper combined bid. at least I think that's how it works. That's why different operators run the same route. Some PTE's and local authorities (I think) stipulate as part of the award that operators must accept each otherers tickets but not all! There are limits as to what can be specified. Currently return tickets must be accepted but as most operators choose not to sell them that the way it goes. We could also ask them to award to the daytime operator only and as soon as the operators find out the bid prices will go up massively when they realise they cant lose and up goes the council tax. Cant win no matter what they do. The Travelmaster range of 1, 7 and 28 day tickets (such as Citywide) are there for that - valid on all operators. Those that are able to commit themselves to just one operator can of course enjoy the extra discount offered by single operator tickets.

Stagecoach Yorkshire tender updates: Ecclesfield - 31 not awarded, 57 evenings and Sunday mornings to First, 86 late evenings to First, 35a and 201 to Powell's. Holbrook - 25 late evenings to First. Barnsley - 92 not awarded (Globe are running this commercially during the daytime as a 94). We've retained the evenings and Sundays as 94a. Chesterfield - 71 evenings not awarded. We have gained new work at Ecclesfield (one daytime bus on M92/58) and four school buses (760, 762, 766, 777). Rawmarsh have gained the 136 evenings and Sundays, Rotherham to Hoyland. Rawmarsh will also run the commercial 49, Doncaster to Sprotbrough when the 219 is straightened out. This is one daytime bus, working off 220/221. We've retained some existing work, including the 218 evenings, 219 evenings and Sundays and all the Penistone Grammar contracts. The 408 and 409 will move from Ecclesfield to Barnsley. Note that SCT have lost all their tendered work with just the NHS funded H1 remaining. TM Travel have lost the 4 (not awarded), 6 to First and 61/62 to Powell's. New work for Chesterfield depot... Working with the Peak District National Park we have won a tender to run a summer leisure service linking Derwent Dams, Bamford, Hope, Edale, Castleton, Winnat's Pass and Blue John Caverns. Two buses will run daily for the six weeks school summer holidays. We have the contract for three years. Whats the 58, that's been awarded alongside the M92 71 is probably another victim of the glass wall that is the county boundary. The South Yorkshire section of route (City-Mosborough) is covered by the 50 and 30a and why would South Yorkshire PTE fund a Killamarsh service when that is in Derbyshire. Meanwhile in Derbyshire they already have a service 70/70a from Killamarsh to Chesterfield via Halfway covering Derbyshire needs, so why would they fund a bus to Sheffield when that is South Yorkshire.... As mentioned elsewhere, it is only a small number of trips that are actually tendered.

Before the network change the tendered bit was Woodhouse-City and Bradway/Lowedges was served commercially by the 53

Yes I agree the travelmaster range is available for this purpose. The problem I have is that timetable changes and operator changes are so frequent now that it's getting unwise to buy a single operator ticket at all! because if your want to buy a ticket that is valid for more than one month you don't know if the same operator will be running the service even just a few months down the line. For example First only recently started running the 136 now just months later Stagecoach are running evening and Sunday services from September. People cannot make a choice without risking the ticket being useless.

I suppose passengers could catch a Tram to Halfway and then change on to a 70A to Killamarsh...It’s similar to the evening and Sundays Mansfield 53A, which terminated at Halfway. All just to cut down on cost.

With the bus partnerships, it is a jointly run network and it is now designed for the Travelmaster products to be the main ticket range with operator specific tickets being a kind of discounted deal for commercially run routes.

Does anyone know what's happening with the 22 Doncaster. It's my main route from home, and am not keen when a change is noted. Till the timetable is released it's always a concern for me.
