Remember as CS1 describes, a 91 is a locomotive and thus can be driven from either end. Although ISTR there is a speed restriction when running slab end, 110mph comes to mind.
Would have been fun when they got to Kings Cross as I don't think there is any run round facility there - would need to do a shunt-release with a light engine.

The word "express" is used for the service A 142 on an express is maybe stretching the trades description act! ;D

I once came back from Leeds to Sheffield on the fast service riding in a 142 running on one engine. It only lost 4 minutes

142s have the exact same top speed as 158s which is 75 Mph Regardless of the top speed of a 158, I'd be terrified doing 75 mph on a 142 - it'd be like that rickety rollercoaster they had at Alton Towers

I remember the days when Arriva/ Northern did the Sheffield - Meadowhall - Wakefield W - Leeds limited stop service, the route seemed to get anything that was avaliable so was usually a 142/144, considering these trains were going rather fast for most of the trip (at a guess 60-70mph) it used to be quite a bumpy ride!!
Atleast something more suitable gets used on the present fast services

The good news is im still alive after travelling between Meadowhall and Barnsley on the 9:11 arrival this morning on a CLass 142 train!
As for the comment above about Alton Towers, at one point I thought we had lost the front end of the train it was flying all over the show. Its either the seats have springs in them or the trains are slightly "up down up down" think i managed to bang my head 7 times on the 14 minute journey.
WARNING TO ALL: If a Class 142 turns up on an express route, stand to the side and kindly wave it by waiting for the next train as you are likley to arrive at your destination much safer. And yes thew 158's do have a top speed of 90mph.

Do Grand Central have any First-liveried Class 180s in service? I ask because on flew through Doncaster Station (southbound) at about 11:20am-ish yesterday - I know Hull Trains have got some but I thought they all stopped at Doncaster? I've seen the GC liveried 180 but didn't realise they had others in service if it is them.

Grand Central have recently taken delivery of a new 180, but it's branded in their livery not the First livery. They're definitely taking some more 180's for the Bradford-London service starting in May 2010. It's possible they may have been doing route/driver training, but still in trains branded in First livery.
All Hull Trains services stop at Doncaster, but I guess it could have been a spare unit, perhaps driver training again?
