They we re used to evacuate the wednesday ground after the hillsborough disaster. They were taken off the city clipper the request of the police They were also used for one day only on short journeys from Sheffield City Centre (outside what is now argos) to hillsborough park sevice 53 - can any one tell me why? Are we talking 1977 by any chance and the Queens silver Jubilee event in Hillsborough Park, were school children from all the school in Sheffield attended and the Queen attended? No cos the 2nd batch of bendis wernt in service then |

Well the only other big event in Hillborough Park i can think of but cannot remember when it took place was the Popes Visit. Otherwise as Penn & Teller says, you fooled me!!!!.

Apart from when the sheffield show use to be in hills park only other big event was a concert call sport aid that i can remember i think this was 1988 popes visit was early 80s i think. |

Barry was right but he got the year wrong it was a visit by the queen , the artics (2nd version) were used on a service 53 from outside Cockaynes buildingt (argos to mot on here) to hillsborough park. The buses then returned from hillsborough park and dropped off ftzallen sq area. It was for school parties only I dont think fares were charge.
Think the nearest the Pope got to sheffield in the last visit was Manchester

Great photo Andy. The 110 camera really took some nice photo's for its time, i know i enjoyed using mine. Also love this photo, www.flickr.com/photos/andyrad/5204690489/in/photostream/. Use to see it every Sunday with Big Billy driving it. Got to know the Boss of Enterprise & Silver Dawn really well and as far as i know still owns some preserved Lincolnshire buses to this day. He certainly ran some interesting buses including a ex Chesterfield decker. |

Andy can you remember why the bendis were at EB ? Is this the period from the end of the Clippers up until Meadowhall opening?. On resevre there was a rumour at the time they where going to be sold to grampian transport. |

Having now looked at my listings for the bendis the allocations I can find for them is only RO or GR 2013 is listed as
RO GR RO GR RO
The pits at EB were done to accadate them but they were never allocated there.
I have a photo of two of the old type parked outside one saturday evening and a line up of the newer ones there - this occured when the city clipper was suspened ususaly due to lord mayors parade or the students rag parade.
I suspect the photo above is one of these
