I saw an 8 wheeler First decker on Sheaf Street on Friday afternoon, heading north. It seemed to be either an MCW or an East Lancs bodywork.

62054 63058 and 63060 both themed “Keeping our City Moving”. I did see 63059 the other day but cannot remember whether it’s also been done or not… 63050 is still unbranded. 63059 does indeed carry the keeping our city moving theme.

On its way to ensign bus along with several of its mates. Pre booked stop at OG for Fuel for the final leg.

They aren't giving up with this electric bus thing, are they? Sigh. The Streetdeck version certainly looks a lot better than the Yutong. People (especially on this forum) will miss the sound of diesel engines when they are gone. An electric bus may seem a novelty now but when they all take over, it will be rather dull. And what happens when the electricity board decide to rocket prices again, as they have over the past 2 years? It could make running a bus service unsustainable.

Same thing when oil prices rocket they deal with it and more negativity about change, if you had been around 100 years or so ago we would still be going everywhere by horse and carriage and you will miss the sound of horses hooves when those noisy engines take over.

Like in so many other areas, we find better ways to do things. Modern diesels don't sound much like ones from the 80s and older anyway, and the controlled emissions associated with EVs are much more preferable. With sensible government policy we do at least have the ability to be self-sufficient in energy, while I believe much of our diesel comes or at least came from Russia, not sure if they've found alternative sources.
Musing on this actually led me to an interesting thought. Bus depots tend to have large areas of tarmac, something which would make an ideal location for the pipework for ground source heating. Not much use for a bus depot, but very handy for housing nearby. Maybe a business opportunity for an enterprising group, set up a district heating system, a new revenue stream to help pay for charging the buses?
I'm pretty sure in the not to distant future there will be similar voices decrying the introduction of driverless buses. It comes with progress, always some people look to how to improve, others hark back to the past.

How is an electric bus a better way to do things? It's just a different power source. I dare say it's harder to fix an electric bus when the battery breaks than a combustion engine too. I am not sure why First are ordering new vehicles anyway, when they are struggling to turn a profit and have scaled back many routes (X5, 18 etc) to one bus every two hours on evenings/Sundays. Stagecoach Skegness are still operating 1998/1999 AlX400s. The oldest bus in the FSY fleet dates back to 2007. Surely it's better to makes what little profit is possible using existing buses than investing £millions to wait years to break even on them.
