Just a quick update on the Tram-Train project:
- 8 May Supertram get handed the line over from Network Rail/Carillion with all works finished and the route energised
- Testing on the Tinsley chord has already commenced as of last week
- The 1st ghost running tram for commissioning should take place during the night on Wednesday 9 May to Parkgate
- Tram 202 / Train 399202 is the 1st vehicle to have the Tram-Train S1 tyre profiles fitted and is now classed as a train
- Tram Train profiles can still only work between Meadowhall / Shalesmoor / Spring Lane. Sheffield Station is used for Spring Lane as the points are "knackered" and due replacement
- Service expected to start from late September/October 2018
- Expected to become the Silver Line (still subject to change) - Red/Green obviously cannot be used. Tangerine and Turquoise were suggested alternatives but resemble too closely to existing route colours

Quick question... why can’t red be used? I understand Green as it’s an amalgamation of the Yellow and Blue around Christmas.

It's illegal to show a red light at the front of a vehicle .

Just a quick update, commissioning should take place between 12am and 4am but as with all things is subject to change. On Thursday night the tram-train will be coupled to locomotive for shunting testing on the mainline, with another tram-train waiting on the Tinsley Chord to test how this will work. As a result all the couplers on the class 399s are having to be modified once again.

399204 / 204 now has the S1 tyre profiles fitted and is now also classed as a train. I believe this should be it, until closer to the opening date after rail replacement. This leaves the tram system with 2 additional spares as we all know how temperamental the Citylink 399s can be!

I thought there was 2 Citylink's with the S1 tyre profile fitted Yes, 202 / 399202 was the 1st to be retrofitted as posted in the 1st message
As you would imagine with testing now commencing, the status of the Citylink on the Rolling Stock Library (R2) has been changed to status B - approved for testing. South Yorkshire Supertram LTD has also fully gained its Train operator and Station Licence by the ORR.

Whilst a tram has been seen on Network Rail tracks the Tinsley Chord had fences across it on Thursday afternoon plus a sleeper across both tracks. What appeared to be signals/indicators for the junction after Meadowhall South also had covers over them.
Doesn’t look like regular testing is likely in the near future!

Couldn't attain a line possession for some reason from Network Rail apparently.
Also Tram-Trains 399201/2/3/4 - 201/2/3/4 are the trams allocated for the Tram-Train operation. Only 202/4 are fitted with the S1 tyre profile at the moment.
TPWS and AWS testing has also begun, with new AWS magnets placed at two locations on the tram network - Woodbourn Hill outbound and Hyde Park inbound. These are blue and located in the 4-foot if anyone is interested.
