The 26 did turn round at the cemetary gates on abbey lane in the same lay bye that other buses on shorts turned round but then it was called woodseats !
So you had the same stop but with two names at the same time.

Quite, except that the Woodseats buses should have turned around by using some back streets, but due to car parking problems, the roundabout was used instead.

Another interesting list especially with the Derby and Nottingham destinations, thanks Browncream.
To me, the Y blind makes most sense being in alphabetical order as at least that way the driver knows exactly where the destination would be if it's on the list, although I suppose this will result in a large amount of turns.

Surely the best method is to group destinations together - for example, termini next to each other. Hence reducing the number of turns and making it at least half likely that drivers will bother re-screening properly.

Agreed - a fantastic resource, thanks for browncream for posting it (and the others) As for the alphabetical destination blind, I suppose that this saves problems when long running routes are cut, so that instead of turning the blind once or twice to get from Woodhouse to Firth Park, you're now looking at a dozen or more turns to get from Woodhouse to Loxley (to give one example). Do you create a blind that is convenient for the services at that time, or factor in potential future changes? I suppose one way round this (in an alphabetical blind) would be to aim for two termini on a route that are close in the alphabet, like from Ecclesfield to Ecclesall, or Crookes to Crystal Peaks... All changed since you now just press a few buttons, I suppose...

However, surely it would still remain better to reduce changes - since, as with any mechanical system, the number of turns must be related to the number of problems?

How some of the London garages handle it is to group each routes' end terminal points together, then have 'Not in service' followed by an alphabetical listing of all the possibly short working points (which probably take up two thirds of the length of the blind).
This works though because a London garage tends not to run as many services, for example my nearest garage - East London's Leyton - is only responsible for the 48, 55, 69, 97 and 230. So it's quite easy to do a blind like that.

Should have mentioned that GLOSSOP was added as an insert to these blinds.
The next posting, when I have time, is the two versions of the AB blind (or Swift).

Thanks for answering my query about Ford and Ridgeway brownncream. Also, thanks for the 1968 Y blind. Never seen an alphabetical one before either.
Now as both of these blinds are just before my time, I notice that there is no mention of Halfway/Holbrook on them yet nearby Mosborough, Killamarsh and Eckington are. What services went through Halfway and what route would they take to get to Killamarsh from Mosborough for example? I know that Halfway has changed (Streetfields, Westfield Centre etc) and grown considerably since the time of these blinds. Am I right in thinking that Halfway was just for 'passing through' rather than terminating? As I wasnt around then, I would love to know what services were like!

Neither was Halfway! Not sure of the history the area, but I remember the 41 terminating around Waterthorpe/ Frecheville in the days before Crystal Peaks shopping centre

Taken in to the Sheffield boundary in 1967 (together with Hackenthorpe, Birley, Mosborough, Charnock etc.). The main route in the area was the old 25 Beighton Circular.

Ahh many thanks brownncream for that info! I had heard of mining around Holbrook and have seen photos of when the Halfway depot was Booth and Fisher. Hard for me to visualise Halfway back then compared to how the area looks now.
Looking forward to more bus blinds by the way.
